FAQ
Bar & Bat Mitzvah planning questions, answered
The questions Charlotte families ask most when they first reach out. Don't see yours? Ask Heather.
When should we start planning a Bar or Bat Mitzvah in Charlotte?
Most families reach out 12 to 18 months before the date, once the synagogue has assigned it. Popular Charlotte venues and the most requested DJs, photographers and decor vendors book up for spring and fall weekends well in advance, so earlier is easier. That said, Heather has pulled together beautiful celebrations on much shorter timelines, so if your date is close, reach out anyway.
What does a Mitzvah planner actually do?
Heather handles the whole picture: the vision and theme, a realistic budget, venue selection, building and managing the vendor team, the design of the room, the weekend timeline (service, luncheon, Shabbat dinner, party), communication with every vendor, and day-of coordination so you can be fully present. You make the decisions, she makes them easy.
Do you only plan Bar and Bat Mitzvahs?
Bar and Bat Mitzvahs are the focus of Razzle Dazzle Event Planning, and that focus is the point: Heather knows the Charlotte synagogues, the venues, the vendors and the rhythm of a Mitzvah weekend inside and out. She also plans B'nai Mitzvahs, double celebrations, luncheons and morning celebrations. For anything else, just ask.
Which areas do you serve?
Heather is based in Charlotte, NC and plans celebrations across the area: Ballantyne, South Charlotte, SouthPark, Uptown, Matthews, Weddington, Waxhaw, Lake Norman, and Fort Mill and Rock Hill in South Carolina.
Do you have to use your vendors?
No. Heather has a trusted team she recommends because they deliver, communicate and work well together, including ATG Entertainment for DJ, lighting and photo booths. If you already have a photographer, a caterer or a DJ you love, she will fold them into the team.
Can you help with the theme if my kid doesn't have one yet?
Yes, and that is one of the fun parts. The best themes come from what the guest of honor genuinely loves, whether that is a sport, a city, a show, a color palette or a feeling. Heather helps translate it into a room, an entrance and a party that feels like them, at any budget.
What venues do you work with in Charlotte?
Heather has planned celebrations at Temple Beth El, Ballantyne Jewish Center, Chabad of Charlotte, the Charlotte Marriott City Center, Marriott Waverly, Marriott SouthPark, Renaissance SouthPark, The Ballantyne Hotel, AC Hotel Ballantyne, Carmel Country Club, Canopy SouthPark, Hyatt Centric SouthPark, Le Méridien, The Ruth, Lenny Boy Brewing, Heist Brewery, Spare Time Entertainment, The Ivory Barn and more. See the gallery for photos from each.
My son would rather play than dance. What are the options?
Plenty. Heather has planned Bar Mitzvah celebrations at Spare Time Entertainment with bowling and arcade games, parties with yard games, sports-card photo booths, airbrush stations and video game lounges, and themed nights built around a team or a sport. The party gets built around him.
How involved can my daughter be in the planning?
As involved as she wants to be. Many of Heather's favorite Bat Mitzvah celebrations started with the guest of honor's own vision, from a beach club to New York City to a glow party. Heather includes her in the fun decisions and keeps the logistics with the parents.
What happens on the day of the celebration?
Heather and the vendor team set up (sometimes over several days for a big transformation), she runs the timeline with the DJ and the venue, manages every vendor, handles the surprises so you never hear about them, and stays through the end. Your job is to enjoy your child's big day.
How do we get started?
Email Heather at HR.BMitzvah@gmail.com or use the inquiry form on the contact page with your date, shul, approximate guest count and any ideas you have. She will reply personally to set up a first conversation.
What is The Mitzvah Showcase?
A free afternoon party in January where Charlotte families meet Bar and Bat Mitzvah vendors in action: DJs, planners, photographers, decor, photo booths, sweets and more. Heather co-hosts it with ATG Entertainment. The next one is Sunday, January 10, 2027 at the Levine JCC.
